10 Things You Should Never Do to Your Dog
Your dog is probably one of the most loving members of your family. No matter what you do, they will always love you.
It’s this unconditional type of love that knows no bounds. But even though they will always stand by your side, there are a few things you should never do to them.
1. Teasing
Children are typically the ones that are usually guilty of this. By barking back at them when they are locked up, or chasing them around it can be most annoying to dogs. It can also make dogs aggressive and shy. If you see a child moving their dish away when eating, it’s important to nip this behavior in the bud before it gets worse.
2. Interrupt their Sleep
Even the sweetest of dogs don’t like to be woken up from a deep sleep all of a sudden. Older dogs that sleep a lot more definitely don’t like this. You should allow your dog to wake up on their own instead.
3. Use a Tight Leash
Walking dogs’ one tight leash can harm them, and they do not particularly care for it. Most dogs seem to drag their owners down the streets with their leash tight behind them. It’s important instead to use a loose or retractable leash to give them some space.
4. Correct Them After the Fact
When they have misbehaved, it’s important to correct them in that moment, not after the fact. They don’t have a great long term memory, so they really won’t remember what you are correcting them for in the first place.
5. Allowing them to Beg for Food
In the canine world, they are all members of a pack. To allow your dog to beg for food and then reward them with a bite of food lets them know they are in charge, not you. Lower members of the pack wouldn’t bother the leader when they were eating.
