Mother Dog Is Devastated After Being Surrendered At Shelter Without Her Newborns
When contacted, the family that had Cora accepted they had surrendered the mother and not the puppies. It is not uncommon for people to surrender the older dogs and to keep the puppies. But it was particularly concerning in this case as the puppies were barely four weeks old. They had to be with the mother. The mother had to feed them. Not only would the puppies struggle to survive without the mother but Cora too would have had problems staying away from her newborns that early in their lives.
Fortunately, the family was convinced that Cora and her puppies must be united. When her puppies were delivered at the Marin Humane Society and Cora got to see them, she was back to how she should have been in the first place. She started wagging her tail, she lost all her fear and was suddenly very comfortable with all the human attention. As her puppies started squeaking, she fed them and also took to the treats rather happily. Now Cora is waiting for a new home.
