| - When your dog bares his teeth but no snarling sound is heard, it means he is protecting and guarding his territory. When you find any animal who is currently eating, it is best not to approach them, as it may give the wrong signal that you’re trying to steal their food.
The Dog’s Stance
- If a dog rolls over and exposes his belly to you, it only means he puts his trust in you. He does this to please you, so better scratch his belly to show you love him.
- If a dog puts his head on your knee, it is seeking attention and needs you to pay attention to him. If he uses his nose to touch your hands, he wants to be pet by you. He may be wanting to play or is feeling lonely.
- If the dog looks at you with a very smug look and puts his paws on your knees, he is trying to dominate you. Look into his eyes and remove his paws to show him you are the one in charge.
- If your dog lifts one front paw, it is asking for something. He might be asking you to play with him or needs you to feed him. Other dogs do this too when they see something that catches their attention – something that’s interesting and is most typically a behavior of hunting dog breeds.
- When the dog turns his back on you, he trusts you a lot.
- When a dog shakes, it may not only mean he’s trying to get rid of water in his body after a bath. It may mean he is taking the stress of his body after an unpleasant meeting with another person.
Did you learn a lot from the items listed above? I’m sure I do! I now know what my dog might want when he does a certain gesture and is very much useful information in building better relationships with my dog.
