I hate imaging dogs or any other animal being abused. Unfortunately, this is a frighteningly common occurrence. I try to avoid these stories of horrible owners and abused dogs, but sometimes, you just can’t help but come across something. Social media makes it hard to sometimes turn off the part of my brain that knows dogs all over the world are being tormented, mistreated, or otherwise abused.

At the same time, you could make the argument that these stories are also important. We can’t forget that there are dogs out there who need our help. There are always going to be dogs that are waiting for someone to rescue them from a truly horrible situation. I own four dogs, and two of them came from abuse situations. Even as they continue to physically and emotionally heal, it is sometimes too much for me to even imagine what they must have gone through.

However, there are silver linings to this grim state of affairs.
