It is important to note that wolfdogs still has wolf traits and qualities that make a little bit more challenging to tame and breed. For amateur breeders, make sure to get a wolfdog that is several generations removed from wolves. For experienced breeders, you can move on to a higher level of F3, F2 or even an F1 wolfdog breed.
Also, one needs the correct housing, environment and licensing to own a wolfdog legally aside from the fact that as an owner, one should also have experience and training on how to handle the complexity that is of the wolfdogs.
Wolfdogs’ unpredictability makes them a breed not suitable for ordinary, amateur and untrained dog owners. If in case, one took a wolfdog in only to give it back to its breeder because you feel you cannot handle them, the wolf dogs will be scarred for life. Their sensitivity and bond with their owners can cause havoc to their emotions if they will only be returned back to where they were bred.
I’ve learned if you really want a wolfdog, get one that is several generations removed from wolves, just to be safe for both you and the wolfdog. So, among the three wolfdog mixes mentioned, which breed is most recommended? Aneeka recommends German Shepherd Wolfdog mixes that are several generations removed from the wolf. F1, F2 and F3 dogwolves should only be owned and bred by experienced breeders.
I’ve always dreamt of owning a wolfdog, but I truly think I am not yet ready to face the big responsibility of caring for one. with all the crazy things happening in my life right now plus with the other dogs I have to take care of, I don’t think I can handle a wolfdog for now. But, I certainly plan on owning one, one day. Hopefully, it will be sooner than later.
