As a dog owner and animal lover, all I’ll ever want is the safety of my pet after handling it to the airline thinking they will make sure he is properly taken cared of and arrives safely – on the correct destination.

This was the very reason why I am very hesitant about flying my pets. I am aware that many animals are kept in cargos were they are at risk of dying due to stress and heat. Some breeds such as the snub-nosed dogs and cats are even declined by some airlines as they can easily have difficulties in breathing in hot and stressful environments. Some animals that have medical conditions also face a significant amount of risk which is why they should not be boarded on a plane.

I am not saying pet scandals happen because of airline employees’ fault alone, as owners need to be very careful when it comes to sensitive matters. I only hope that everyone who will fly and board their pets in airplanes will know and understand the risks and be vigilant to make sure their pets are safe.

As for airlines, please treat animals the most humane way possible. Their flight is also paid, they deserve the same respect and care that people have the privilege of. Also, they are alive and breathing, which means they have a life. And anything that has life must be treated with love and great respect.

May the past incidents be a lesson to all, and may it never happen again.
